The Bilderberg group meet in Britain this year. There was a time when to barely suggest The Bilderberg Group existed could get you denounced as a kook. Eventually it was acknowledged to exist, and in recent years (incomplete) guest lists have been published, possibly to fob people off.
What is happening in Watford this weekend?
A vast range of the Western finance capital elite are meeting, off record, for a conflab about issues of concern to them. This year those issues include “entitlement” – they are entitled to rip us off blind and treat us as serfs and fodder. We are to be less entitled to receive what we pay our taxes for. Our taxes need to go to banks and other large corporations as much as possible. By coincidence, Labour have just announced they will be timid at best in rolling back the Tory welfare “reform” agenda.
Who is there? Politicians (including Cameron and “rivals” George Osborne and Ed Balls), arms dealers, oil barons, aristocrats, heads of tax dodging giants like Google, senior bankers, some establishment media types, that kind of thing. Nothing to worry about. Just nice people.
Who is paying for the luxury? Goldman Sachs.
Who is paying for the policing? The serfs.
What is not happening? Very large protests. There will be modest protests, the sort that the self appointed left often sneer at for thinking The Templars hid Diana on the moon. But not many leftists will be there.
It’s just outside London, if it was a G8 or G20 there would have been a mass mobilisation. But for years the left have had it in their heads that protesting against Bilderberg is the preserve of “conspiracy theorists” (as if conspiracies aren’t a central plank of politics).
For anyone who suspects massive collusion and corruption among the elite, Bilderberg is very strong evidence : Invite only, off record, unaccountable.
But the press coverage remains fairly downplayed and generally contextualised by describing opponents as “conspiracy theorists”. The left prefer to go along with the establishment press narrative, which is pretty rare for them. Why?
Rather than address the fact of a lobbying event that makes the current scandal look modest, they turn up their noses and give way to petty judgement and myopia.
In an over used phrase of people who theorise about conspiracies – it’s time to wake up.
