Did you know?
– Al Qaeda are on ‘our side’? It’s like old times in Syria, they’re sharing objectives with their CIA colleagues of yore. In fact, without their help the rebellion could be nearly finished.
– It looks like bail out time again for the crooks using Greece as a blag. With over a month since the last one, it was starting to look weird.
– West Midlands Police, one of the first trying to contract some crime investigation to G4S types, are getting funky little finger print machines to try out on the serfs.
If you didn’t keep up with this stuff it could be that you were ensnared in the grand dilemma de la jour:
Decide. Now. Do you think people fuss way too much about rape, or that its probably ok anyway?
No? You are unveiled as an imperialist lapdog with a disdain for press freedom.
For the former: plenty of people who stood up for womens rights all their lives
For the latter: Stalwarts of anti-imperialsim.
Many really do fall in both categories, especially in the US. They can lie low and laugh like drains, but some have opted to discover in themselves a virulent feminism that none would have suspected.
This didn’t start with Assange scuttling to the Ecuador Embassy, and it was Hague’s letter, against top advice, and outlining invasion of sovereign territory as on the cards, that really set the froth machine to 11.
I just assumed Hague to be a blundering bighead at first.
But given the amount of people, often together on the same side, tearing at each others throats and ignoring much else, it could have been a stroke of genius.
Once again, we see the curse of a demand for so much to be reduced to absolutist ‘right v wrong’
Wind ’em up and watch ’em go!
It’s not a new thing, but it’s getting worse.
At least 72 hours when call-ins and messageboards can be set to auto-belm.
You have to be committed and well informed to get to the bottom of all the ins and outs. If you put a foot wrong in something you say, or miss a caveat because 140 characters won’t allow it – well, you’re one of the foulest and stupidist beings to blemish the earth. Ever. Shut up and stop tweeting me!
Not that there’s not a strawman behind every corner. It’s a life size replica of The Wicker Man, with thousands lusting for you to share the fate of Edward Woodwards hapless inspector. All any of us deserve innit.
I even got blocked by one rather famous chap after agreeing with a balanced post of his (update : all seems resolved on this one 😉
Do so many now just hurl cyber-invective because connection to real political decisions is near nil?
For all the countless opinions heard and seen, how many have an impact on the outcome?
Unless a lot of unknown lawyers and diplomats are using untraceable profiles, the answer is : Maybe a few people on TV and radio.
For the rest of us, is it all partly the displaced cries of impotent serfs, or as a Scottish play may have said : “Full of sound and fury, signifying #notverymuch”?
